Brief Introduction of Windows Firewall

Windows firewall is the firewall component of Microsoft Windows. It not only helps filter information from the Internet but also blocks potentially harmful programs that try to enter our system. Meanwhile, it also prevents most programs from trying to communicate through a
firewall.

When we use a public network, Windows Firewall also protects the system by preventing all
unsolicited attempts to connect to our computer.

Enable Windows Firewall for Windows 10

Method 1: Enable Windows Firewall Using Settings

Step 1: Click the Start button and select Settings.

Step 2: In the Windows Settings part, click Update & Security.

Step 3: Select Windows Defender and then click Open Windows Defender Security Center.
Next, choose Firewall & network protection and choose a network profile.

Step 4: Under the Windows Defender Firewall section, switch Off to On.

Method 2: Enable Windows Firewall Using Control Panel

Step 1: Type control panel in the search bar and click the Control Panel to open it.

Step 2: Select System and Security and then click Windows Defender Firewall. If Windows
Firewall for Windows 10 is disabled, we will see Windows Defender Firewall: Off.

Step 3: To turn it on, click Turn Windows Defender Firewall on or off in the left navigation
panel, then just check Turn on Windows Defender Firewall and click OK.

After completing the steps, we can see that Windows Defender Firewall: On, which means we
successfully enable Windows Defender Firewall.

Disable Windows Firewall for Windows 10

Disabling Windows Firewall is not recommended, but if we are troubleshooting problems or
planning to install another firewall, we can turn it off.

Method 1: Disable Windows Firewall Using Settings

Step 1: Click the Start menu and choose the Settings option.

Step 2: Under the Windows Settings section, click Update & Security.

Step 3: Choose Windows Defender and then click Open Windows Defender Security Center.

Next, select Firewall & network protection and choose a network profile

Step 4: Under the Windows Defender Firewall section, switch On to Off.

After finishing all the steps, we can successfully disable Windows Defender Firewall.

Method 2: Disable Windows Firewall Using Control Panel

Step 1: Type control panel in the search bar and click the Control Panel to open it.

Step 2: Choose System and Security and then click Windows Defender Firewall. If Windows
Firewall for Windows 10 is enabled, we will see Windows Defender Firewall: On.

Step 3: In order to disable the Windows Firewall, click Turn Windows Defender Firewall on or off,
then just check to Turn off Windows Defender Firewall (not recommended) and click OK

After finishing all the steps above, a message will pop up from Security and Maintenance telling
us that Windows Firewall is disabled and we can tap or click to turn it on.
